This time around I want to talk about a book which we only mentioned back on episode 1. The writer/artist of this book, Rob Osborne, had given me access to a PDF preview copy of the book. I am going to review the preview copy in the hope that everyone will buy it when it comes out.The book has a $3.50 cover price and is published by Absolute Tyrant. Issue 1 is 24 pages and printed in black & white. It will be in stores some time in March 2008. For more information on the book, including a cool YouTube trailer, go to the website at www.absolutetyrant.com
The story follows Lord Alfred Zango, Jr., who is heir to his fathers empire of evil. But Alfred is bored after having defeated all his arch-enemies. Now he mostly just sits on the couch gorging on junk food and watching television. Occasionally he is riled by the media attention that other super-villains are getting.
I really enjoyed the artwork. Very nice clean lines with a cool, almost-cartoony look. The story really is a lot of fun and offered me a few belly laughs. There is no bad language to be found and what violence there is seems suitable for all-ages. Nothing more harsh than what is on a Saturday morning cartoon. Although one character does lose an eye to a rampaging cyborg gorilla. Yes, you read that right: RAMPAGING CYBORG GORILLA! What more do you need to know about this book to get you to buy it? Also a bunny rabbit meets a sad fate. But the violence and gore is very low-key.
All-in-all I have to recommend this book to anyone who likes to have a good laugh. I think about ages 8 and up can handle and enjoy this book. I give this one a B+.
